Project Brief:

I have a deep love for hardsurface design that stems from my Industrial Design roots. As I expanded beyond ID into more of a 3D focused discipline, many of my favorite 3D designers (many who additionally had an Industrial Design background) were often designing robots and Mechs. There has always been apart of me that loves creating 3D mechs.

This project was inspired after witnessing the Project Gr00t Showcase at Nvidia’s GTC. I am an active member of the Omniverse community and am often engaging with the team and keeping up to date with all the new technologies. I wanted to challenge myself with creating a piece of 3D concept art that I could imagine existing on stage next to the other humanoid robots. I always wanted to continute to utilize the usd file format in Omniverse and try to expand my knowledge on it.

From this came BM1: Band Mate 1

My concept of a humanoid robot band mate. I put little pieces of myself in this design, the prophet 08 synthesizer is my favorite synthesizer that I own. The speakers are inspired by the Yamaha ns-10’s, another personal favorite.

This design was completely modeled in 3ds Max using SubD modeling.
